Calla Panel

Soft curves and deep rippled slits reveal the layers of hardwood plywood. Hand gouging and sanding both refines and dilutes the mechanical carving.

Flourish

Swirled forms incorporate Renzo Piano's DeMenil sunshade louver section. Cedar wood chipped out where the model was too thin.

Ripple

Hand-drawn freeform shapes come out hairy on one side and smooth on the other due to way the surfaces hit the woodgrain.

Mechanical translation of hand-drawn freeform curves to 3D slots reveal irregularities and twisted surfaces generated by the software.
